Breast Surgery

Canterbury Breastcare has six very experienced surgeons who all have a specialist interest in breast surgery and are available to diagnose and treat a wide range of breast diseases, including breast cancer. They offer a full range of breast surgery, excision of benign breast lesions, wide local excision, mastectomy, sentinel node biopsy and axillary clearance. Where appropriate they also work with their consultant colleagues in plastic surgery to provide breast reconstruction, either at the time of mastectomy, or as a delayed procedure.

When surgical treatment is required this is arranged at a mutually suitable time and will be performed either at St George's hospital or Southern Cross hospital here in Christchurch.

Our breast nurse specialists are qualified nurses who specialise in breast health and they work closely with all our consultants to offer the best possible patient care. The breast nurse specialist provides information regarding treatments, practical advice and psychological support to patients and their families. The breast nurse specialist is a point of contact for all our patients and coordinate their care pathway.

Plastic Surgery

Canterbury Breastcare has a plastic surgeon available, who in collaboration with our breast surgeons is available to offer advice to women who wish to undergo breast reconstructions following their diagnosis of breast cancer. The plastic surgeon is also available to advise on the management of breast asymmetry, breast reductions and implant-related issues.
